History

We are created by God in Christ!

The statue of Jesus in our narthex reminds us that it is our Lord who brings us together as a church family. We thank God’s Holy Spirit for calling and gathering, enlightening, and nurturing us in the congregation. And we pray to that same Spirit to make the life of the holy house a real sign of grace present in the world.

Christ Lutheran had its beginning on May 12, 1884, when a constitution was drawn up and adopted. The church was located on Hwy G in Big Hollow in rural Spring Green. The Jesus statue in our current narthex was on that church’s altar.

That structure was moved into the village in 1953. The original site of the church is where a well-maintained cemetery stands.

That building stood until 1971 when a new facility was built. The basement of the old church is still part of the current grounds and is used for youth education spaces.

A 1995 addition included parish hall and our present worship space.

This brief glimpse into the history of Christ Lutheran points to many evidences of God’s continued guidance and blessings through the years.
